Nine Fuel Tankers Rescue Bamenda From Imminent Fuel Scarcity.
By Raymond Dingana.
Reports from Bamenda, chief town of the North West Region of Cameroon say, close to nine fuel tankers escorted by armed to
the teeth soldiers have made their entry in to Bamenda in the evening hours of
Tuesday September 21. This is coming barely days after two fuel tankers were
set afire in Akum, a small village in Santa sub division of the North West
Region of Cameroon by those eye witnesses say were armed men in civilian
attires, Saturday September 21st, 2019.
The incident was greatly condemned by this
driver of a travel agency in Bamenda .Hear him: “I think such a move was uncalled for given that, there
was no restrictions on movement in and out of the region. I just want to thank
and appreciated God for being the reason why the tankers did not explode else
the story would have been different as hundreds of lifes would have perished”.
It should however be noted that, last Saturday’s
incident was not the first to have happened on that particular Bamenda-Santa road.
Many vehicles have been set ablaze including a caterpillar which was to be used
to construct the road linking Bamenda and Babadjou in the West Region of Cameroon.
Security forces have also
come under fire from users of that road who say they concentrate on collecting
monies from passengers and drivers forgetting that their job is to protect
lifes and properties: “Where were the
security officials when the armed men stopped the fuel tankers setting them
afire? If the government cannot do something about these security men and women
who only set and collect monies from drivers and passengers forgetting what
their job really is, one day some people will come into this town and take all
the administrators away and they will not even realize it ”. Brenda told DrayInfos.
Though an imminent fuel scarcity which might have lasted for a long time has
been averted, the population of Bamenda is far from living a normal life. Since
last Saturday, September 21, 2019, same day the fuel tankers were set ablaze,
the population has been without stable electricity supply. It is reported that, a pylon was
brought down in Mbatu by unidentified men, the reason why Bamenda has been without
stable electricity for days now.
