SDF: National Dialogue Should Be Chaired By A Neutral Personality.
By
Raymond Dingana.
The Social Democratic Front Party, the
SDF has underscored the need for a neutral party to chair the upcoming dialogue
announced by President Paul Biya of Cameroon last Tuesday September 10, 2019. In
a Press Release dated 12 September 2019 signed by Joshua Osih, First National Vice President of the
SDF, the party says: “Such a National Inclusive Dialogue should
be chaired by a neutral personality”. In his address to Cameroonians
last Tuesday, President Paul Biya of Cameroon said, Chief Joseph Dion Ngute will be chairing the dialogue,
a decision that is already proving to be unpopular.
The SDF is also against some of those
to take part in the dialogue as indicated by President Paul Biya who announced
in his address that, the military will also be taking part. To the SDF party,
the military cannot take part in a national inclusive dialogue, which is essentially
political.
The SDF also says that, the national
dialogue has been occasioned by the Anglophone crises and therefore,
Anglophones must be central in its discussions and the party is proposing a pre-conference
in this regard that will allow the dialogue not to go the way of the 1972
referendum and the 1961 tri-partied meeting.
The party also underscored the need
for the national dialogue to dwell on the root causes of the Anglophone crises,
structured openings to discuss the form of state, with the view of adopting a
new constitution for Cameroon and that, this should be prominent on the agenda.
The party also called for President
Paul Biya to grant a general Amnesty to all those who have been implicated in
the crises so that, all stake holders will be able to take part in the national
dialogue.
It should however be noted that,
many in the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon have cast doubts over
the announced dialogue. To them, the fact that the government has not been
comfortable with the Tumi led Anglophone General Conference is a clear
indication that, the Biya regime is not honest and doubt if the government is
serious.
Many have also asked the question
as to why the government is still talking about consultations given that the
Musonge commission has been to the North West and South West Regions for the same
purpose asking the question as to where they have kept all what came out from
those visits.
