CHRAPA Inaugurates Para-Legal Center In Nkwen To Monitor Human Rights Violations.
By
Raymond Dingana in Bamenda.
The Center for Human Right and Peace Advocacy –CHRAPA has inaugurated a Para-Legal Center and
handed over to the population of Mbelem, a locality in mile six Nkwen, Bamenda
III Sub Division of the NWR of Cameroon. During the inauguration and handing
over ceremony, Sunday October 20th, 2019 at Mbelem, mile six Nkwen, the coordinator of CHRAPA,
Mr. Tata Nelson called on the population to make judicious use of the
Para-Legal center put at their disposal by CHRAPA to take care of human right
issues among others. He also told the inhabitants of Mbelem that, though the
Para-Legal center is based in Nkwen, it doesn’t mean others from different
areas cannot benefit from the services the center will be offering. Mr. Tata
Wilson also encouraged the beneficiaries to report all cases of Gender Based
Violence including Rape, Battery, Child Abused, and many others to the center
saying they should not to be afraid to do so because no one will ever know they
did. He also thanked the Quarter Heads of Mbelem for accepting to host the
Para-Legal Center saying the center is out to monitor human right violations in
the community and beyond.
During the question and answer session, a lady raised an issue about
a family head whom she said has been raping children in that area. She frowned
at those who have not done enough to punish the old man in order to force him
to stop violating children, asking the question as to what should be done to such people. She
thanked CHRAPA for the Para-Legal Center when she was told that, such cases
should not go unreported and that, the center is there for cases like the one
she mentioned.
Tumukum George Nkwain is a Para-Legal Officer working with CHRAPA.
Read him: “CHRAPA thought it wise to decentralize the Para-Legal center because
of the many cases that come to the office on a daily basis. This will help ease
the challenges people go through just to come to the head office to report
cases of Gender Based Violence since the centers have now move to them. Many of
such centers will be created in the nearest future”.
Mr. Tamtam Ngu John is quarter head of Mbelem, mile six Nkwen. He
appreciated the coming of the center brought to them by CHRAPA saying it will not
only help those in Mbelem but neighboring communities .He also called on the
beneficiaries to nurture the center so that it will continue to grow from
strength to strength for the good of the community.
According to this lady who is a member of the community, human right
violations have been happening in their community and they have not been able to
manage them. She further said, with the coming of the Para-Legal center, that problem has been
taking care of because the presence of the center will also serve as
a deterrent to those who are fun of abusing the rights of others.
Worthy of not is the fact that, the newly inaugurated Para-Legal
Center in Mbelem is the forth of such centers coming after those of Belo,
Finge, and Pinyin.
