Major National Dialogue: “They Needed Spectators, Not Participants”- Barrister Akere Muna.
By Raymond Dingana.
The leader of the Now Movement, Barrister Akere Muna has in a
Statement On The Major National Dialogue dated 01 October 2019 [picture below ]
add more flesh to the reason why he decided to suspend his participation in the
event. He says, he suspended his participation in the ongoing dialogue as it
became painfully clear that, they needed Spectators and not Participants.
Hear him: “The
unfolding of the events of the first day of the Major National Dialogue
revealed that, everything was carefully stage managed and produced from a
script from which the organizers could not stray. From what is saw, it became painfully clear that, they
needed Spectators and not Participants”.
On the topics to be handled on the dialogue
table, Barrister Akere Muna laments that, certain topics were absent: “Worse
still, certain topics such as the form of the state, and the situation of
political and economic prisoners which are important in the current context
have simple been avoided ”.
Barrister Akere Muna also intimated
that, when he was received by Prime Minister Chief Joseph Dion Ngute as part of
consultations that preceded the Major National Dialogue, he presented certain
historical facts that were forerunners of the present crises and made certain
proposals that he thought would ensure the success of the Major National
Dialogue.
Akere Muna also used the statement
on the Major National Dialogue to frown at the manner in which things were done
on day one of the event: “I was hoping to find a platform where all
stakeholders will make their voices heard and where all opinions, however
divergent would be taken in to account because, frequently, a way out is found
at the end of a healthy debate”.
He however promised to continue working
tirelessly for the restoration of peace, social justice and national cohesion
in Cameroon.
