Newly Matriculated Students Of UBa Christened, The “Batch Of Determination”.
By Raymond Dingana.
The Vice Chancellor of the
University of Bamenda has christened the 2019 batch of freshmen admitted in to
the University of Bamenda as the“Batch of Determination”.
Professor Theresia NKUO Akenji made the declaration last Thursday November 21,
2019 in the campus Restaurant of the university in Bambili during the Matriculation
and Oath taking ceremony of some 4,382 newly admitted students into the
institution. The choice of this year’s batch naming Prof. NKUO said was
inspired by the fact that, despite the all odds, the students are bent on
acquiring knowledge:
“In spite of what is happening,
the children are determined to go to school, they are determined to learn,
acquire knowledge and make their tomorrow a better tomorrow, so I see
determination and that’s why we christened them the batch of Determination”.
Theresia NKUO Akenji in her matriculation
speech enjoined the students to embrace independence without excesses,
cautioned them against squandering their parents’ money. She also called on the
freshmen to exploit the services offered by the University of the Future-UBa
positively as they enjoy their stay in Bambili.
In an Academic Discourse from a seasoned in-house
pedagogue, Prof Titanji Peter Fon, Dean of Faculty of Education on the theme“Time Management and Academic Excellence”,
an excellent student is the “A”
grade student and to achieve this, he said the students must manage the time in
their hands judiciously. Prof Titanji challenged the students to minimize their
dependence on the phone and other activities that will add little of nothing to
their studies:
“You own the phones, the phones
do not own you” he told freshmen. Setting out list of priorities, avoiding
procrastination, being prayerful are some of the critical actions students
should take .Prof Titanji Peter Fon intimated.
Sis Lontum Evagenline Banfila is a Mathematics first year student of Higher Teacher Training
College. She says she is happy having successfully matriculated and is ready
for the task ahead: “I am very happy to be part of the matriculation ceremony and my
determination to study and impact knowledge to others is booted. I have always
admired giving out knowledge all through my life. I want to study so I can
impact the lives of others”.
Worthy of note is the fact that,
while many continue to drag their feet and staying away from school for reasons
better known to them; their peers are taking the challenge to educate themselves
in order to be better persons in future.
