Reports from Guneku Village, Mbengwi Sub Division of the North West
Region of Cameroon say, armed men dressed in military fatigue have attacked the
village square looting shops as the population fleet in to the bushes, Saturday
December 28, 2019. According to eye witness account, they came in armored cars armed to the teeth
and ready for combat.
The incursion in to Guneku actually disrupted the Tad Market said to be the last for the year 2019 as many traders and buyers were forced to make a U -Turn back to where they were coming from.
The incursion in to Guneku actually disrupted the Tad Market said to be the last for the year 2019 as many traders and buyers were forced to make a U -Turn back to where they were coming from.
In a telephone conversation with Mr. Charles from his hiding place in
a bush, the incursion was unprovoked given that, they have been living without
any issues before they came under attack from men in military attires.
“We don’t want
trouble; we were just in the market trying to sell one or two things to take
care of our families. They came in their armored cars causing everyone to flee
in to the bushes. They destroyed the doors of a provision store at the Guneku
Village square and stole items from the shop. I saw them from a distance
stealing from people’s shops and also smashing food stuffs and as we speak, they
are still there. My fear now is what will happen to our relatives who are
living with special abilities because the men in military attire spare no one
no matter your condition”. Mr. Charles told DrayInfos from his hiding place in a bush.
There have been no reports on casualties. However, it is not clear
what may have happened to those who were not able to run because of one
challenge or the other.
On Saturday December 21, 2019 in a bid to help people with special
abilities celebrate end of year feasts without difficulties, HRH, Fon Dr. Fomuki
Walters of Guneku Village disbursed a huge financial package which was handed
over to them.
The handing over ceremony that took place at the Fon’s Palace brought together
people with special abilities from different religious backgrounds and from
different parts of Mbengwi.
The multibillion dollar question on the lips of many is as to whether
the peace caravan sent to preach peace in Mbengwi recently was a mere formality
or there was some seriousness in it given that, after such an exercise, what just
happened in Guneku and other places shouldn’t have happened.
