Bamenda Explosion, Galim Attacks: Gov’t Cries Foul As International Community Remains Mute.

By Raymond Dingana

After suffering two heavy attacks by suspected pro independence fighters in Galim, West Region of Cameroon and in Bamenda on the night of Saturday breaking Sunday March 8th and on Sunday march 8th 2020 respectively, the government of Cameroon have denounced what it says is the silence of Non-Governmental Organizations and other actors of the international community. This is contained in a communique dated 08 March 2020 signed by Rene Emmanuel Sadi:
''the Cameroon Government denounce the silence of Non-Governmental Organizations and other actors of the international community. The Government of the Republic calls on the friendly and international partner countries of Cameroon to condemn with equal determination these terrorist attacks against the Cameroonian people.'' Indicated the communique which also gave a balance sheet of the attacks:
“The attacks in Galim left four elements of Cameroon’s defense forces dead, including two Gendarmes and two Police Officials .Four civilians, including a compatriot kept in police custody in the Security Chamber of the Galim Gendarmerie Brigade and three fellow citizens accidentally met by these dehumanized individuals were also killed, after the two attacks perpetrated in this locality”.
In Bamenda at the Commercial Avenue Grandstand on women’s day, a soldier was killed and seven seriously injured, including five (05) soldiers, two (02) Police officers and one (01) Civilian according to government sources.
The government of Cameroon also appealed to friendly countries to use all legal measures against those it called enemies of peace:
“ We invites them to take, within the framework of their respective competences, all legal measures against these enemies of peace who maintain the situation of insecurity in the North-West and South-West Regions”.
The government communique further reads: “The Government firmly condemns these vile acts, perpetrated by criminals whose sole objective is to sow chaos to serve selfish interests, and conveys to the families of the military and civilian victims the sincere condolences of the PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC, CHIEF OF THE ARMED FORCES, as well as the comfort of the entire Cameroonian people to the injured. In addition, in view of the extent of the damage caused by the secessionist terrorists, the National Defense and Security Forces launched a search operation of the area and arrangements were made for increased security in the locality of Galim”.
Worth recalling is the fact that, on many occasions, some government officials have preached the gospel of Cameroon being a sovereign state reasons why many are yet to comprehend government's call for the international community to condemn acts perpetrated on a sovereign state like Cameroon. These same Non-Governmental Organizations and other actors of the International Community have appealed to the government of Cameroon to initiate a mediated peace talk saying, it’s the only way to end the killings and destruction. All these appeals seem to have  fallen on deaf ears as armed to the teeth soldiers ready for combat are being sent to fight in the two restive regions, thereby ignoring calls for a mediated peace talk.
Many Cameroonians on both sides have continue to perish while billions of FCFA, monies which would have been used to develop the country are wasted on WAR MACHINES to enrich the western world whose eyes are fixed on Cameroon’s natural resources while the weapons they sell  are taking away lives and bringing untold misery to the population.
If the gun carriers could just reflect for ones and see where their decisions are taking the country to, the human and material damages their decision is causing and who the biggest losers and winners are, they will surely have a rethink.
