The mayor of the Bafut Municipal Council has invited Elites of
Bafut to bond with the rest of the population fight against the spread of
Covid-19. Mayor Ngwa Akongho Lawrence was speaking Wednesday April 22, 2020 in
Bamenda. This was during the distribution of Tap Buckets, Tablets of soap, Hand
sanitizers, Face masks and many others to traditional authorities to fight
against Covid-19 in their neighborhoods.
“We are calling on the elites of Bafut, those residing out of the region that, these things are not enough, considering the vast nature of Bafut. They should support the Bafut council so that, we can move into the hinterlands to safe the lives of those our people who are not privileged to have all of these things that we have today”. Mayor Ngwa Akongho told DrayInfos.
He also used the event to underscore the need for the population
of Bafut to understand the fact that, the Bafut council is their property and
not the property of a particular political party.
“The Bafut council is for everybody,
not for a particular political party.
All what we are distributing today is to be used by everybody irrespective of
political parties; it is to protect the lives of the population of Bafut. Make sure
you put into practice all the thirteen measures put in place by government to
curb the spread of the virus. We call on them to make good use of the items”. Mayor Ngwa Akongho said.
Worthy of note is the fact that,
the event took place out of the Bafut municipality because of security
challenges brought forth by the socio political crisis rocking the two English
speaking regions of Cameroon. Bafut is one of those areas badly affected by the
crisis. There has been enormous human and material loses, many are seeking
refuge in bushes and other neighboring communities hoping to come back when the
situation would have normalized.
