Covid-19 Support Measures: Cameroon Gov't Rescues Economic Activities.

The government of Cameroon has lifted the curfew imposed on economic activities to curb the spread of Covid-19. In a special declaration by Chief Dr. Dion Ngute, Cameroons Prime Minister signed April 30th, 2020, bars, restaurants and other leisure spots that were prohibited from operating after 6PM from the 17th of March 2020 are now free to close at any time. The declaration also insists on the obligatory wearing of protective masks by customers and to respect other barrier measures like social distancing.
The transport sector that was already bleeding has breathed a sigh of relief. According to the document, the measure reducing the mandatory number of passengers in all public transport buses and taxis has also been lifted while; the wearing of face masks remains compulsory and overloading is prohibited. The exemption from the withholding tax and from parking fees for taxis and motorbikes, as well as from the axle tax for the 2nd quarter and that it could extend to the rest of 2020.
Family allowances have been increased from CFAF 2,800 to CFAF 4,500, the 20% increase of old pensions that were not automatically revaluated after the 2016 reform.
According to PM Dion Ngute, the 13 measures put in place by government in the month of March to limit the spread of Covid-19 have created economic and social distortions whose effects are being felt in several areas of national life. This explains why President Paul Biya of Cameroon decided to lift the curfew on economic activities.
It should be noted that, many have lost huge sums of monies to security forces for violating some of the measures.

Hotel and catering sectors have been exempted from the Tourist Tax for the rest of the 2020 financial year, as from March.
