Fight Against Covid-19: Confirmatory Diagnosis For Covid-19 Now Possible In Bamenda.
By Raymond Dingana
The fight against Covid-19 in Bamenda is taking a new
dimension with the coming of diagnostic kits for screening. The
announcement was made Saturday April 25, 2020 during
a press briefing at the Regional Delegation of Public Health for the North
West.
As indicated by Dr. Kingsley Che Soh, NW Regional Delegate of Public
Health, the coming of the machines which he siad is a great relief for them as the turn around
time from sample collection to when the lab results are obtained will be
significantly reduced.
About the five confirmed cases, Dr. Kingsley Che Soh indicated that,
they are being managed by competent services and are responding well to
treatments. He added that, NW governor; Adolphe LeLe L’Afrique has
requisitioned two hotels in Bamenda, which will act as
quarantined centers.
According to Dr.Kingsley, the homes of the five confirmed cases have been
disinfected by the Rapid Intervention and Investigation Team of the Regional
Delegation of Public Health. He said the team has also conveyed eighteen
contacts to one of their quarantine sites for sample collection, testing and
confinement.
He also used the press briefing to discourage movement of suspects in
and out of the region, reminding all and sundry of a provision by Law for anyone
who has been exposed to Covid-19, and who voluntarily decides to expose the
lives of other fellow Cameroonians by traveling to other towns to be severely
punished. The third case has been invited to get her family
members tested in Douala and not try to bring them to Bamenda for testing as
she would have loved to.
The fourth and fifth cases are residents of Bamenda who received some
visitors from Douala and later on presented some respiratory symptoms. With
the North West region having five confirmed cases of Covid-19, the population
has been called upon to always wash their hands with soap and running water,
stay at home as much as possible and to obligatorily wear their face mask when
leaving the house, avoid over crowded places especially markets , avoid closed contacts with any one presenting flu like symptoms,
maintaining a distance of at least 1.5 meters between two or more persons among
other measures.
