Ngar-Buh Inquiry Report: Wimbum Community Demands Befitting Lives, Not Befitting Burials.

The Wimbum community in Bamenda has challenged the government of
Cameroon to give them befitting lives and not wait for them to die to be
accorded befitting burials. Reacting to the portion of the inquiry report by
the commission of inquiry to investigate what many now called the Ngar-Buh
Massacre of Feb, 2020, many a Wimbum indigene asked the question as to whether
the victims of the massacre have ever had a befitting life, asking why the
corpses should be exhumed in the name of according them befitting burials.
As indicated by Nfor, an indigene of Ndu in Ndonga Mantung Division of
the North West Region of Cameroon, befitting burials is a misplaced priority : “The people of Ngar-Buh and other
areas in Ndonga Mantung Division need a befitting life and not a befitting
burial. It is not even in our culture and tradition for people to be buried and
the corpses exhumed in the name of giving them a befitting burial. Have the
people of Ngar-Buh ever had a befitting life given to them by government, look
at the pictures of the innocent children killed by the same people trained to
protect them, see how shabby they were in the picture, did they look like
people who have ever had a befitting life before? Despite their hardships, they
were not still allowed them live”.
Another area of the Ngar-Buh inquiry report which has equally come
under fire is where it is indicated that, a military base will be created in
Ngar-Buh: “Ngar-Buh is an enclave area lacking social amenities. What they need now is not a military base.
They need Portable water, Health and Educational facilities, Road networks and
many others. These are some of the needs of the people which if put at their
disposal will mean they have been blessed with a befitting life which can never
come from a military base. It makes no sense to wait for people to die and when
they are buried, you come again in the name of given them a befitting burial”. Ndifor said.
The number of those killed in the
incident and many others has also been disputed both at home and abroad. With
the result of the commission of inquiry charged with investigating the Ngar-Buh
killings already out, calls are now coming from different areas for the warring
parties to give peace a chance. This they say can only happen if and only if, they
sit on a round table and start talking.
