Covid-19: Alim Hayatou Visits NW, Calls For Synergy To Fight Pandemic.

The Secretary of State in the Ministry of Public Health in charge of
Epidemics and Pandemics has prescribed a combined action of both the
authorities and the local population to root out the corona virus pandemic from
the North West Region of Cameroon. Mr. Alim Hayatou made the call Friday May
15, 2020 during his visit to the region to assess the regional responds plan
put in place by authorities of the region to check the spread of the corona
virus pandemic.
“The corona virus pandemic is a humanitarian
problem affecting not only Cameroon but the whole word. The corona virus has
come to remind us that we are all humans; we breathe the same air, a child in
Bamenda and the one in New York are facing the same risk reasons why we need a
synergy to beat the virus”. Mr.

During the visit, Mr. Alim Hayatou visited the covid-19 screening post
at Matazem Santa, the covid-19 incident command center at the NW Regional Delegation
of Public Health, the covid-19 treatment center, the site for the construction
of the isolation ward, the pre-isolation ward, the diagnosis laboratory, the
Quarantine and Treatment center at Azam Hotel and many others.
He would later have a working session with health officials and
traditional leaders on better ways to curb the spread of the virus. The session
that took place at the Conference Hall of Ayaba Hotel saw the Regional Delegate
of Public Health for the North West bringing to the lamp light some of the
challenges faced.
“Insufficient personnel, if you look at the
increasing number of cases, at some point the personnel will have are going to
get tired, so we need to add the number of personnel in order to meet up. We
don’t have enough Ambulances to transport patients, financial challenges, the
incident command system is really suffering financially, absence of a standard isolation unit, the
buildings that are hosting our incident command system; we think that they
still need some renovation amongst others ”. Dr.
Kingsley Che Soh said.
He also said, the diagnosis laboratory in the region receives samples
from the NW and West Regions and that, twenty laboratory technicians have been
sent to Bafoussam to undergo training on sample collection.
On his part, North West governor, Adolphe LeLe L’Afrique frowned at
population for not taking the anti covid-19 measures seriously. He saluted the
commitment of the health personnel citing the case of those whom he said moved
every morning to screen all those entering the region.
On their parts, traditional authorities underscored the need for them
to be involved in the fight against the pandemic. The Fon of Songwa village
frowned at the authorities for neglecting them in the fight against covid-19.
He said one of the confirmed cases that was finally treated left the hospital
without them knowing and that, his village has not received its own share of
the anti covid-19 kits that have been shared.
With the NWR haven recorded thirty four confirmed cases, six deaths as
at Friday May 15, a strong synergy is needed to halt the spread of the corona
pandemic.
