Anglophone Crisis: Reconstruction Possible Without Complete Return Of Peace - TASONG .
By Raymond Dingana
The National Coordinator of the
Presidential Plan for Reconstruction and Development, [PPRD] for the North West
and South West Regions of Cameroon says, rebuilding the two restive Regions at a time when peace has not
yet fully returned is
possible. Mr. Tasong Paul was speaking on the occasion of the introductory
meeting which marked the beginning of his
tour to the NW Region to raise awareness and sensitize
beneficiaries of the PPRD,
Monday June 22, 2020 in Bamenda.
“We are aware of the disbelief of some, and yet the bad faith of others. A question has been address to me many times to know if we can rebuild when peace has not yet fully returned to the regions. As I said on each occasion and as I will say tomorrow, I am saying it now that, the answer is a big yes, yes because reconstruction is the path way to peace. The reconstruction will be done gradually, from peaceful and secured areas to the more unstable areas. Nobody wants to endanger the lives of workers or risk seeing the infrastructure that we will be rebuilding be destroyed again”. Mr. Paul Tasong said.

During a working session with stakeholders, Mr. Tasong said, the crisis has given birth to thousands of internally displaced Persons and refugees which he said is not a permanent status. He added that, these are conditions that have turned the hard working population of the two restive regions into beggars, which he said is unacceptable adding that, it is deplorable for people to live their comfort zones and are squatting with others under precarious conditions.

It should
be noted that, the ongoing crisis in the two restive regions of the country have
caused enormous human and material damages for four years now. Many have said, reconstruction
is good while calling on the warring parties in the four-year old war to think about human lives first
before reconstruction given that, at the end of the reconstruction, if care is
not taken, many would have died from incidences that would have been avoided if
they initiated a talk for long lasting solutions of the crisis to be arrived at
before reconstruction.
