Nigerian Women Decry Kidnappings, Extortion In Bamenda.

The President of the women’s wing of the Nigerian Union in Bamenda, Mrs. Margaret Ovayozo Ituen says, Nigerian women are facing numerous challenges both in the hands of the Cameroon Military and None State Armed Groups:

“Sometimes when the man is not, the women are taken in his place and released only after huge sums have been paid. Even when the man is kidnapped by unidentified persons, the women suffer psychologically and emotionally.  When women are travelling to or from Nigeria to Bamenda, whether with or without valid documents, they are extorted by soldiers stationed along the Bamenda- Ekok road. All these are happening at a time when businesses are crumbling because people have fled the restive regions; yet, we are being kidnapped and extorted”. Mrs. Ituen said.

During his one day diplomatic visit to the population of Enugu State, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Sunday August 09, 2020 at the Nigerian Union Secretariat in Bamenda, the president of the Union, Prince Otobong Ituen prescribes dialogue as the way forward:

“Dialogue with the government is the measure I have taken to see into it that, the extortion of Nigerians is halted. Unfortunately, I am not able to know those kidnapping my people and collecting monies from them. If I can identify them, I will love to dialogue with them so that, they can leave Nigerians alone”. Prince Otobong said.

According to Mr. Nnaji Monday, Governor of the Enugu meeting in Bamenda, they feel too bad especially as business is not moving coupled with the harassment from both the Cameroon military and the Ambazonia fighters. He however wishes that, the authorities could listen to their cry and come to their rescue.

This is not the first time Nigerians are raising the issue of extortion and kidnappings. Unfortunately, the ills have continued unabated.

Sama Hilda  By Raymond Dingana Sama Hilda, business woman, and a mother of two was kidnapped near her Mile 6 residence on Tuesday, September 24, just one day after a two-week lockdown imposed by non-state armed groups seeking to reclaim what they claim is the lost sovereignty of a country they call Ambazonia. According to investigations conducted by a team of Drayinfos reporters, Sama Hilda maintained communication with her husband and other family members while in captivity. The armed men opened these communication channels, demanding a ransom of over 2 million FCFA. Sources revealed that raising such an amount was a daunting task, given the hardships faced by the population in this crisis battered region. Bamenda Acid Attack Victim Breathes Her Last

  Late Dr Bongka Vivian  By Raymond Dingana Bongka Vivian, after a courageous battle for her life, has taken her last breath. She joined the heavenly choir on Monday, October 28, 2024, in Douala. Bongka Vivian was the Head of the Department (HOD) of Bilingual Letters at the Higher Teachers Training College (HTTC) of the University of Bamenda. She was a victim of an acid attack perpetrated by her husband. Her last journey on planet earth began on Saturday, October 12, 2024, when her husband, Ebai Elias, poured acid on her at the Alahlieh neighborhood in Nkwen, Bamenda III council area before taking his own life by drinking some of it, and died on the spot. Vivian had previously taken a break from her marital home due to her husband's abusive behavior. On that fateful Saturday, she called him to see if he was home, as she wanted to collect some personal belongings.   Sylvester Madu After The Incident   By Raymond Dingana Several persons have been confirmed dead and many others seriously wounded after gunmen opened fire at a popular drinking spot at the Mile 3 neighborhood in the crisis battered Bamenda in the North West Region of Cameroon. The wounded were rushed to the Nkwen District Hospital in the Bamenda III Council area other hospitals around after the incident.  Reports say the incident that happened on Saturday at about 1opm in Nkwen breaking Sunday November 25 is said to have been triggered by by the presence of popular Nigerian Movie Star, Sylvester Madu, AKA Shina Rambo in a snack bar in that area.
