Nkwain Joseph, Prof.Egbengu, Receive Cameroon Performance Award For Promoting Good Health.

Mr.Nkwain Joseph, Director of Florence Nightingale Higher Institute of Biomedical Sciences and Professor Egbe Philip Egbengu, medical director of the Royal Victoria Clinic in Bamenda who doubles as the Head Of Department Of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the Catholic University,  have in two separate events received the Cameroon Performance Award for what the initiators say was for their outstanding efforts in health promotion in Cameroon.

Recently at the premises of Florence Nightingale Higher institute of Biomedical Sciences, Mr.Nkwain of said, the award is an encouragement for them to do more in the domain of health...."this award encourages us making us to work harder,” he said. 

 He added that, for the ten years the school existed, they have been scoring a hundred percent in competitive examinations organized by the Ministries of Public Health and Higher Education. He went further to say that, the school trains State Registered Nurses and Nursing Assistants and Higher National Diploma in Nursing and Medical Laboratory Sciences coupled with other successes accounted for the reason why they won the award.

The school recently signed an MOU with the University of Bamenda in order to permit them extend their programs to the Bachelors, Masters and PHD levels, Dr. said.

According to Dr Mrs. Njini Rose, the first badge of PHD students in the University of Bamenda in Nursing are all students of the institution and that, there are many of them in the Masters Programme.

On his part, Professor Egbe Philip Egbengu, said the award offered to him by CPA is  so important to him because he was singled out among hundreds of medical doctors and that, he never knew people were actually following up what he was doing:

"I am very gratified to be recognised by Cameroon Performance Award. I am not the only medical doctor around, we have about 2900 medical doctors in Cameroon, and if i can be singled out, it gives me a lot of pleasure. It came as a surprise given that, i never knew my efforts in promoting the health of Cameroonians was being watched by CPA who decided to reward my work with this beautiful award." Said Prof.Egbengu.

He also indicated that, there is no hospital in the North West Region that can compare with Royal Victoria Clinic in terms of quality and that; many have gone around but could only get their solutions at his clinic.

In relation to the Awards, the National Coordinator of the CPA, Francis Zante, the exercise is aimed at encouraging individuals who have caused positive change in the society through what they do irrespective of the position they hold in the society.  He said, their approach is bottom top and that, the organizing committee goes through the nominations taking in to consideration certain criteria like Work done, Service to humanity among others.
