Pope’s Emisary Brings Message Of Reconciliation To Cameroon

Vatican’s Secretary of State, His Eminence, Pietro Cardinal Parolin has preached the message of peace and reconciliation to the population of the North West Region of Cameroon.

He said, everyone is responsible for peace. He added that, arms be laid so that, peace and reconciliation may reign in the land.

This was during a Holly Mass for the imposition of the Pallium on the Archbishop of Bamenda, His Grace, Archbishop Andrew Fuanya Nkea, 31 January 2021 at the Big Mankon Cathedral amidst water tight security.

“We are all responsible for peace, all the actors of society are responsible for peace, from the smallest to the biggest person, and no one can feel exonerated from the struggle against evil. This is the challenge that faces you today that, finally, arms may be put down and peace and reconciliation may reign in the land of ours.”  Cardinal Parolin said.

The Pope’s envoy also frowned at those using violence to solve a problem. “Violence never solve problems, it only creates more problems. Peace is a journey of hope, dialogue and reconciliation. Dialogue therefore is the best way to solve conflicts and misunderstandings.” he indicated. 

His visit came amidst ghost town operations imposed by those fighting for the creation of a country they called Ambazonia.

Despite the difficulties in movement, catholic Christians still beat the odds and answered present in their huge numbers.

The Mass also had in attendance a delegation from Yaounde led by the Secretary General at the President of the Republic of Cameroon, Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh who personally represented the head of state, President Paul Biya.

It is however not clear if the message of peace and reconciliation from the Pope's special envoy will be heeded to or not. This is because, the same message  has come from religious authorities at home and other world leaders, yet, the bloodletting has continued unabated.

There are hopes that, since it came directly from the Vatican’s Secretary of State, His Eminence, Pietro Cardinal Parolin not from a distant land but in one of the crisis hit zones, the story may be different.

The people are now looking at the authorities to see if their hope for peace and reconciliation to reign will be crushed or made to come true by them.

Sama Hilda  By Raymond Dingana Sama Hilda, business woman, and a mother of two was kidnapped near her Mile 6 residence on Tuesday, September 24, just one day after a two-week lockdown imposed by non-state armed groups seeking to reclaim what they claim is the lost sovereignty of a country they call Ambazonia. According to investigations conducted by a team of Drayinfos reporters, Sama Hilda maintained communication with her husband and other family members while in captivity. The armed men opened these communication channels, demanding a ransom of over 2 million FCFA. Bamenda Acid Attack Victim Breathes Her Last

  Late Dr Bongka Vivian  By Raymond Dingana Bongka Vivian, after a courageous battle for her life, has taken her last breath. She joined the heavenly choir on Monday, October 28, 2024, in Douala. Bongka Vivian was the Head of the Department (HOD) of Bilingual Letters at the Higher Teachers Training College (HTTC) of the University of Bamenda. She was a victim of an acid attack perpetrated by her husband. Her last journey on planet earth began on Saturday, October 12, 2024, when her husband, Ebai Elias, poured acid on her at the Alahlieh neighborhood in Nkwen, Bamenda III council area before taking his own life by drinking some of it, and died on the spot. Vivian had previously taken a break from her marital home due to her husband's abusive behavior. On that fateful Saturday, she called him to see if he was home, as she wanted to collect some personal belongings.   Sylvester Madu After The Incident   By Raymond Dingana Several persons have been confirmed dead and many others seriously wounded after gunmen opened fire at a popular drinking spot at the Mile 3 neighborhood in the crisis battered Bamenda in the North West Region of Cameroon. The wounded were rushed to the Nkwen District Hospital in the Bamenda III Council area other hospitals around after the incident.  Reports say the incident that happened on Saturday at about 1opm in Nkwen breaking Sunday November 25 is said to have been triggered by by the presence of popular Nigerian Movie Star, Sylvester Madu, AKA Shina Rambo in a snack bar in that area.
