Anglophone Crisis: Kidnappers Find New Fertile Ground In Nkwen

Image
By Raymond Dingana There have been recurrent cases of kidnapping for ransom in Nkwen, Bamenda III Sub Division of the restive North West Region of Cameroon for some weeks now. Just this week, more than seven people have been kidnapped by armed men. The kidnappings have been very frequent, especially around Mobile Nkwen, where the kidnappers easily escape through Cow and Ghana Streets. The gunmen are always armed to the teeth and their actions well-coordinated. Their targets are mostly owners of provision stores and beer parlours under the pretext that, they sell drinks of a particularly brewery company. Three persons were abducted at a drinking spot at Ghana Street on Tuesday in broad day light. A day before the Ghana Street incident, there was another kidnaping case around Mile 3 Nkwen the previous day. "They came to a woman's bar at Ghana Street, took her and a customer. This is a woman who is like a mother to them being treated like that. She is a poor woman only struggling

Anglophone Crisis: How Six Journalists Escaped Life Threatening Gun Shots On The Bamenda - Bali Road

Image
By Raymond Dingana Our second trip to Bali was what one would say was worse than the first. The first journey took us right to Bali but the second ended in a fiasco. The deafening gun shots with some sounding like bombs, the hide and seek that we had to play and the  bush path we did not even master to get back to town was one that would probably have taken our lives but then, we are alive today to recount what happened. It was on Wednesday August 10,2021 when a team of journalists made of four men and two women set out for another journey to Bali, a village situated about 19km from the town of Bamenda, chief town of the restive North West Region of Cameroon.  we wanted to see how things were unfolding weeks after the North West Administration and Separatist fighters placed a ban on the circulation of Motor Bikes and Vehicles. From every indication, things are rather getting worse. We began sensing danger at Hospital Round About when a driver told us that, vehicles were not moving beyo

My Journey On Foot To Bali And Back

Image
By Raymond Dingana The reason for this journey was to have a first hand experience on how trekking on the 19km road from Bamenda to Bali looks like.  This is how many have been trekking for two weeks now following the ban on commercial bikes and vehicles by the North West Administration and Separatiat fighters respectively. When it first came to our notice that, people were covering the 19km road on foot, we thought it was fake news reason why we decided to go see things for ourselves. Our 19Km journey to Bali that started at about 8:30am, Tuesday August 3rd, 2021 began like a joke. The first one hour was cool making us feel like extending the trip to Batibo and beyond.  The fresh breeze from the hills of Naaka energized us as we embarked on the 19km journey. The road was void of vehicles and motor bikes. Just after the Naaka bridge, we met people of different ages trekking to Bali and others coming back, a clear indication that, they left very early. Men, women and children could be
