FEHACU 2021:My Time In The Power House Of The Bamenda III Cultural Jamboree
By Raymond Dingana
The maiden edition of the Festival Heritage of Arts and Cultures (FEHACU) is curruently on in Nkwen, Bamenda III Municipality, North West Region of Cameroon.
The Festival jamboree which started on Friday November 26,2021 is being organized by the Bamenda III Council with Fongu Cletus Tanwie at the helm.
If there is one thing that has caught my attention so far on day one this maiden edition of (FEHACU), it is the power house that takes care of gastronomy.
When i alighted from the cab at Center Bolt in Nkwen and started heading towards the Nkwen Fon's Palace, saliva started gathering in my mouth caused by the aroma emanating from the the FEHACU power house.
I did not need a guide to take me there, the aroma was enough guide for me reason why I found my self on the left side of the palace from Center Bolt Junction.
If you are a lover of rice, spaghetti and others, you may want to look elsewhere, not the Fon's palace, host of the festival.
Here, it is strictly traditional, Achu with yellow and black soap, egwisi cake prepared by Ncha Carline Newoh, Margo ne mba, a typical traditional dish of the people of Nkwen, among others
Fresh palm very much around to flush the beautiful traditional delicacies down.
I was confused on what to settle on. However I decided to go for all the above mention dishes after I was schooled on how there are prepared especially when Ncha Carline said
" you can put in a basket when your daughter is going for her traditional marriage. During honey moon, she cannot cook so the egusi cake and the Achu will be there to keep them strong. The egusi cake is also good for men as it works against prostate cancer."
The dishes were mouth smacking, i felt like going for more. However, I did not because i wanted others to have a thirst since the place was already being enundated by persons who had come to answer the call from the stomachs to be feed.
It feels so good having an opportunity to savor tradtional dishes from diffrent cultures, something the Anglophone Armed Conflict has denied me since 2016.
Thanks to the Bamenda III Council and the Fon of Nkwen, i had the opportunity to feel cultures especially in the domain of gastronomy.
If you visit the FEHACU Festival Village without making a stop at the center that takes care of the stomach, then you have yourself to blame.
Culture is Beautiful, let us promote it.
