By Raymond Dingana
During the official launch of the activities of the office of the Public Independent Conciliator(PIC) and give visibility to the institution, Wednesday January 19,2022 at Up Station, Bamenda I council area, it was revealed that the population stand to gain a lot from the office of the PIC.
Users and beneficiaries of services rendered by the Northwest Regional Assembly and local councils will be treated with respect and fairness irrespective of their cultural, political, religious and ethnic backgrounds or other affiliated or physical condition, the office of PIC reiterated.
The office of PIC will not have anything to do with handling cases between private individuals, elected officials and local councils. The PIC does not also hear land and chieftaincy cases.
According to Tamfu Simon Fai, pioneer Public Independent Conciliator for the Northwest, the PIC will work with stakeholders for amicable settlements of disputes for sustainable peace to reign in the region.
"The PIC will embrace a peaceful method of settling disputes between parties to protect users against violations of their rights and to prevent abuses and discrimination," he said.
He added that, " the office of PIC will has the mandate to investigate the functioning of public services at the Regional Assembly and local council levels, encourage, promote and ensure ethical conduct on the part of our stakeholders among others."
As explained by the representative of the Bamenda City Mayor, the appointment of Tamfu came at the right time,
Your appointment in to this function comes at a time when Bamenda dose not only need palpable infrastructure but moral and psychological issues that need to keep the Bamenda people moving. The Bamenda city council is ready to give you all the assistance you will need, he promised.
On his part, Northwest governor Adolph Lele L'afrique said as the representative of the state, he will mobilize popular support to ease the work of the Public Independent Conciliator.
Many have embraced the coming of the office of the PIC.
To Pa Nuyebga Sixtus, a society watcher, the coming of the office of the PIC is a clear indication that government understands the importance of a third party in conflict resolution,
"What i don't understand is why such beautiful ideas have not yet been implemented so that a long lasting solution to the ongoing crisis that continues to kill is arrived at. Let us try this and see the magic," he intimated.
All fingers are now crossed to see how Tamfu Simon Fai,Northwest Public Independent Conciliator will use his office to contribute to a return to sustainable peace to the restive Northwest region of Cameroon
