The role Nonviolent Communication (NVC) plays in conflicts resolution cannever be over emphasized. Many have baptised it as the magic wand that can trigger a return to peace in a crisis infested area like the two Anglophone regions of North West and South West Regions of Cameroon.

This is because NVC is the total opposite of Violent Communication which is the reason why conflicts like the war in the Anglophone regions of Cameroon have escalated.

Marshall Rosenberg who is the initiator of Nonviolent Communication said,
If both sides understand the needs of the people that they see as rivals, it is possible to resolve every conflict in the world within 20 minutes.
Experts have also explained that NVC is out to promote Nonviolence in all aspects of life especially the way communication between people is conducted. It is also out to promote empathy and compassion among the population.

According to Conflict Resolution Expert, Dr. Bamnjo Herman, NVC is out to de-escalate clashes. He says NVC is the use of words that are not hurtful to anyone,

Dr. Bamnjo Herman, Conflict Resolution Expert

When we talk of NVC, we mean talking and listening to others, avoid using words that can hurt the parties concerned among others. It also means avoiding the blame game and bullying others especially in a conflict situation like the one we have in the North West  and South West Regions of Cameroon. If we avoid all these, then we are on the right path to conflict resolution, said Bamnjo.
The Conflict Settlement Expert further indicated that Mediation and Negotiation are very important aspects in conflict resolution,
With Negotiation and Mediation, you listen to all parties concerned and if you can't do that it means you have taken side. Another aspect of NVC is employing empathy,
Bamnjo said and continued,
with empathy, when communicating, you need to put yourself in the shoes of those who have been affected by the crisis, you should not be indifferent, let the people know you also feel their pain.
Dr. Bamnjo also explained that NVC also means being honest when communicating in order to win the people's confidence,
Don't make promises you can't keep, don't say you will tare roads and years after, when people complain, you start calling them names. This will cause the population to lose trust in you and may end up not listening to you ever again.
For communities to enyoy real peace, Hate Languages, Stereotypes and other forms of Violent Communication must be shown the door and usher in Empathy, Mediation and Negotiation which are all aspects of Nonviolent Communication.

It is for this reason that Draufsicht Bamenda, a Youth Led structure that works on Rosenberg's principles supports members of communities reflect on community based needs and strengthens request competences for different members of the community.
