Qater 2022: As D-Day Approaches, Manipal Hospital India Escalates Medical Awareness For Footballers

Manipal Hospital, India has conducted an Extensive Medical Awareness Program
for Sports Players of Cameroon and Extends support to Cameroon National Football Team ahead of World Cup to be held in Qatar from November 2022.
The hospital held a webinar to promote awareness on sports injuries related to football and shares methods to treat them, October 27th, 2022.

Given the size and speed of these athletes, it is of no surprise that football has the highest rate of injury than any other sports. Most football injuries occur in the knee. The MCL sprain, meniscus tear, and ACL tear are the three most common types of injuries.
Knee injuries in football are the most common, especially those to the anterior or posterior cruciate ligament (ACL/PCL) and to the menisci (cartilage of the knee). These knee injuries can adversely affect a player's long-term involvement in the sport.
Emphasizing on the importance of awareness around sports injuries, Moki Charles Representative from CAMSEJ said, In Africa, sports injuries are a serious yet under-reported issue. This initiative aims to raise awareness about sports people's health and wellbeing and foster greater knowledge of sports injuries. In the bigger picture, this programme attempts to provide athletes the ability to react to injuries sooner.
Manipal Expert on webinar: Dr Ayyappan V Nair, Consultant - Shoulder Surgery, Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy addressed the most common sports injuries, football injuries, prevention tips and common approaches to treating football related injuries like Epat therapy for football injuries, RICE method (Rest, Ice, Compress, Elevate), Tapping and strapping, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, and physical therapy, amongst many other discussion points. Also Dr Ayyappan V Nair, extended his support on medical advice to Cameroon National Football Team going for World Cup to be held in Qatar , 2022 and Dr Ayyappan V Nair suggested that we can start injury helpline to advise on medical support to all football players going for world cup.
