The North West Regional Assembly(NWRA) has settled on the sum of 4 billion, 691 Million FCFA to carry out development projects in 2023.

The budget was voted recently during the December session of the Assembly under the theme: Citizen Participation in a Bottom Up Approach In Sourcing Activitivies from the communities.

Following the October 6,2022 Ministry of Finance [MINFI] and the Ministry of Decentralization and Local Development [MUNDDEVEL] circular transferring competences and terms of reference, the Hon. President of the NWRA, Fru Angwafo III indicated that Housing and Town Planning, Transport, Leisure and Tourism will be areas of focus though others will not be ignored.

We did not neglect the Social,Education and those areas that have a heavy human impact in the human development. We know that in the course of the year we may be able to mobilise more funds, Fru Angwafo III said.

What Population Thinks Should Be Proiritized Come 2023

Sustainable Peace is what many a North West man thinks should happen if they are to harvest  heavily from projects initiated by the the NWRA as far as the 2023 budget is concerned.

According to Abanda Sixtus, a recident of Bamenda, the kind of peace that is needed should come from the heart,

You can't force peace on a people especially in times of conflict. The right things should be done for this peace to happen and that is genuine dialogue and not that which is imposed. If that happens, everyone will enjoy the institutions that we have and those that will come later on, said Abanda.

A member of the Regional Assembly who voted for anonymity said they will be going to their contituencies to preach peace and explained why he thinks the mission will not bear the desired fruits,

What will happen in the days ahead is a typical example of elitism where some of us believe that we the minority consider ourselves to be stronger and more intelligent than those we are supposed to serve,

he said and continued that,

We want them to look at us as demi gods. Have we ever listen to them for ones, their rights are violated every day in the streets, loved ones killed every day and we say nothing despite their cries. We are considered as part of the problem and we think they will serve us cold water when we meet them? I don't think so.

There are those who think that development should be for everyone and not only for those in the urban areas described as ''Green Zones'' while Camroonians in the villages languish in abject poverty.

Hardship brought by the armed conflict according to society watchers has caused many to die from preventable diseases becaue they lack resources to treat themselves.

Trigger happy gun carries have also send many to untimely graves as peace has proven to be a rare commodity in those areas, Ambrose Toh pointed out.

With developmental projects delaying to be sent to these areas in need, calls for what many say is a genuine dailogue have intensified all in a bid to trigger a return to Peace, Forgiveness and Reconciliation which it is believed if seen the light of day, the kind of peace needed by all will be the order of the day.
