Cameroon's leading opposition Social Democratic Front,SDF has accused the rulling Cameroon Peoples Democratic Movement,CPDM of caging councillors as senatorial elections draw near.
Speaking to drayinfos, a candidate of the SDF who spoke to us on basis of anonymity said they have not been able to campaign to the councillors who are incharge of voting senators because the CPDM out of fear has caged them in hotels around Bamenda and other Divisional head quarters of the region.
Political campaigns are not going on smoothly because the CPDM has gathered councillors and caged them in hotels. This is making it difficult for us to meet and sell our manifesto to them.
She said and added that,
Campaigns mean we should have access to potential voters, talk with them and allow them to make their choices and not hidding them in hotels. If they know they are the right candidates, why block the councillors in hotels where we can't meet them?
On roads that have been blocked in some parts of the North West Region, the Candidate said
We don't know who blocked the roads and why knowing that this is campaign time and people are supposed to be moving. This is a clear indication that they don't want the SDF candidates to meet and contice councillors with their ideas.
She furthered that the CPDM know they have failed and have nothing to offer reasons why there is fear in their camp.
This is not time to vote for political parties,it is time to vote for individuals who can deliver. Our going to the Senate is to make sure councillors have a monthly salary. This is because they represent the grassroots. We also want to see in to it that Municipal Councils have one billion FCFA each to carryout development activities amongst others.
The SDF party has saluted those whom it says refused to be camped by the CPDM.
The party has also called on the ruling CPDM political party to release the councillors so that they too can campaign.
