PPRD Follow Up Committee Meeting: National Coordinator Invites Local Authorities To Get On Board

The National Coordinator
of the Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development of the North
West and South West Regions of Cameroon has invited local development partners
especially mayors to get on board and ensure that projects under the PPRD are
executed in record time.

was speaking at the first ever Follow Up Committee Meeting for the PPRD recently
in Bamenda chaired by North West Governor Adolphe Lele Lafrique. He said one of
the challenges faced by the PPRD is poor collaboration coming from some
administrators like mayors.
I am Calling on mayors and other local development partners to provide maximum support to the United Nation Development Programmed UNDP so that all the projects are finished on time,said Tamanjong.
Tamanjong Motuba also disclosed that 3.2 billion CFAF will be used in the domain of Social
Cohesion, over 14 billion on infrastructure rehabilitation and 6 billion CFAF for
local economic revitalization in 2023.
Reissuance of 6035 lost documents, supports to 47 socio cultural events that will impact some 10 800 persons, support to 09 dialogue platforms, Rehabilitation and equipping of four women centers amongst others are some of the areas of focus, as indicated the National coordinator of the PPRD.

It was also disclosed
that 14.32 billion CFAF will be made available for the rehabilitation and equipping
of 46 primary schools, 10 secondary schools, 47 health facilities, and 24 water
points. 83 KM of earth roads, 14 bridges, 07 antenna and electrical systems
will also be rehabilitated. 26 traditional palaces will also be supported. The local
economy will also be revitalized to the tune of 6 billion CFAF.
This year 2023, the PPRD will be spending over FCFA 29 billion with the government of Cameroon expected to contribute over 18 billion, UNDP 236million, 750million from the private sector and over 1.3billion from the government of Japan.

Success Stories
PPRD have also recorded
some successes on the ground especially in the area of Social Cohesion, Infrastructure
rehabilitation, and support to the local econmy.
Under Social Cohesion,
11 women and youth centers were reconstructed and equipped, Reissuance of 800
lost documents, 14 Socio-Cultural events organized, 6 media houses supported
and members of staff trained.
Infrastructure rehabilitation
saw the reconstruction and equipment of 36 schools, 16 health facilities
reconstructed and rehabilitated and the reconstruction and rehabilitation of 20
water points.
Local Economy Revitalization
saw 19 Microfinance supported with equipment, 120 start up kits for youths, 08
markets rehabilitated, 2500 farmers and 84 cooperatives were also supported,
just to name but these.
Governor Lele Lafrique Expresses Satisfaction
Chairing the committee
meeting, North West Governor, Adolphe Lele Lafrique expressed satisfaction with
the journey the PPRDN Plan has covered. He said the PPRD will in the nearest future
start focusing on the belongings of victims destroyed in the crisis.
The coming years will see the construction of properties of victims destroyed as a result of the war in the region. I am appealing to stakeholders to support the implementing partner in the execution of the Plan. I am also warning all those embezzling what has been destined to the local population. They will be sanctioned if they continue embezzling,

He also called on local development stakeholders like the North West Development Authority, MIDENO, North West Regional Assembly NWRA, Political and Religious Authorities including the civil society amongst other members of the committee to work for the success of the plan.
He added that the
projects nominated should respect the bottom top approach meaning it should
meet the needs of the beneficiary population.
Mayors Appreciate PPRD
The Mayor of Benakuma council in Menchum Division,Ihimbru Solomon and his counterpart of Nkambe, Donga Mantung Division, North West Region of Cameroon, Musa Shey Nfor have both praised the PPRD.

Benakuma Council said given that his
people are mostly in to agriculture, all
what they have received will boost the farming sector.
We received farm tools, Tricycles, oil mills, cassava mills, watering canes amongst others. These will help boost the productivity of the farmers especially in the area of food production,
stated mayor Ihimbru.
For Musa Shey Nfor of
the Nkambe council, the bottom top and inclusive nature of the plan is what has
brought joy to the population of Nkambe.
The PPRD takes in to consideration the bottom up inclusive approach. This means that there is no discrimination as Persons with Disabilities, the vulnerable, youth amongst others are onboard. We had a need assessment and identified priority projects and placed them on a scale of preference. Based on that, the domain of Agriculture, water and infrastructure,
indicated Mayor Shey Musa.
He added that phase two
of the plan will target the provision of house kits, construction of bridges
and roads, green gas houses which he said is value added.
Challenges Facing the PPRD In North West Region
As pointed out by the North West Regional Coordinator of the United Nation Development Program UNDP, Nyuyinui Mary, security challenges, overwhelming needs, and Covid 19 are some of the challenges the PPRD has been facing on the field.

Worthy of not is the
fact that the PPRD is out to Fast-track development of the North West and South
West Regions of Cameroon to catch up with the others in terms of wellbeing and
achieving emergence by 2035.
