Councillors of the Bamenda City Council have in their budgetary session, voted the sum of FCFA 4.8 Billion, 852 Million, 359 thousands, 978 Francs as the Council's budget for 2024.

Mayor Paul Achobong of the Bamenda City Council said the figures are mere budgetary projections, and not effective recoveries, and that it would need the collaboration of all for it to be realized.

" I am appealing that we all work as a team to ensure proper revenue collection, as well as improve on the living conditions of our populations."

The city mayor also invited council personnel to descard what he described as the bad habits of absenteeism, laxity, corruption, misappropriation so that the budget is absolutely realized.

"We shall solidly depend on state services such as Directorate General of Taxation, Treasury, Ministry of Finance, our supervisory authority, the SDO,MINDDEVEL, Housing and Local Development as well as FEICOM, to enable us collect what we are due."

He was optimistic that despite the socio-political crisis that has continued to bleed tax payer's purse, they will still act responsibly and pay their taxes and on time.

Bamenda City Council Priority Projects For 2024

While hoping that the budget would be realized, Mayor Paul Achobong  indicated that good roads, portable water among others are made available.

" Our key value is to ensure that Bamenda city dwellers enjoy good roads, portable water, electricity 24/24 and also enjoy a clean and safe environment."

As to how the projects would be realized, the city boss said

"Everyone has a role to play. We have spoken to the City Councillors. Every community has a councillor and as soon as they put their people together and propose their project, we would execute them. They have to assure us that the equipment and the personnel who would be doing the job are protected."

For water, he said they are going to build more reservoirs and provide boreholes to communities that doesn't have CAMWATER services.

How 2023 Was For Bamenda City Council Projects

The year 2023 had its own share of projects, and all those that were awarded on time have been completed, Mayor Achobong confirmed to the media.

Mayor Paul Achobong Of The Bamenda City Council

He said some of the roads in Bamenda I have been completed, rehabilitation of the municipal library which he said is complet, and a good number of street lights have been installed. He furthered that the City Council constructed a borehole at the Regional Hospital in Bamenda, and another at Ecole Des Champions, and many others.

Another point of interest was the dusty nature of roads in the city of Bamenda. Mayor Achobong said a double surface dressing will be carried out on the road in order to subdue the dust that is causing serious health challenges to the population. Nothing was said as to when the work will commence.

He also appealed to those he called authors and facilitators of ghost town oppressions to kill the idea and contribute to the development of the city.

He said they should present a balance sheet of ghost town activities and say whether it's been of any use to them and their loved ones.

With all the projects earmarked for 2024, Bamenda City dwellers are only hoping that they don't end on paper, but should come to pass.
