14th Ordinary Session Of NWRA: Hon.Fru Angwafo III Updates Members On Projects Execution

The 14th Ordinary Session Of the North West Regional Assembly (NWRA) has taken off in Bamenda with members receiving updates on the level of project execution at the level of the region.

The session that is expected to run from April 8-11, 2024 is dedicated to the Presentation of the 2023 Management, Administration, Finance,and Stores Accounts).

In a chat with Regional Assembly Members, Monday April 8th during the joint opening, the President of the North West Regional Assembly, Fru Angwafo III updated the members on how development projects are unfolding.

"In 2023, the NWRA awarded 40 Regional Assembly Internal Tenders Board contracts/jobbing orders. As we speak, all annual projects for 2023 have been completed at a physical execution level of 100% and paid 100% financial execution rate," 

Fru Angwafo continued that,

"only multi-year projects are ongoing. The project for the construction of an Emergency Centre in Bamenda is at 20.0%, while the Construction of the Regional Assembly Guest House is at 30% physical Execution rates."

The honorable President of the Assembly pointed out that performance report and presentation of accounts of the past year serve as a litmus test of their commitment to serving the public good.

"It is incumbent upon us, as representatives of the people, to uphold the highest standards of integrity and to ensure that the resources entrusted to us are utilized judiciously for the betterment of our communities,"

 Fru Angwafo indicated.

Looking back at the year 2023, the president said

 "we have achieved significant milestones across various sectors in the Region, ranging from infrastructure development to healthcare, education, economic development and culture."

He furthered that:

 "our investments in road maintenance and rehabilitation projects have facilitated connectivity, improved access to markets, and enhanced the overall quality of life for our citizens."

In the education sector, he said the Assemble's commitment to quality education has seen an increase in enrollment rates and the establishment of new schools, thereby laying the foundation for a more knowledgeable and skilled workforce. 

"The REC offered over FCFA 20 million to 706 needy student candidates for registration of end of course examinations."

In the healthcare sector, access to essential healthcare services has been boosted resulting in improved health outcomes and a higher standard of living.

Culture was not left out as over 30 palaces and Fondoms were rehabilitated in the region. The impact of the Peace and Development Initiative (PDI) in narrowing the gender gap and diminishing inequalities encourage them to do more, explained the President.  

Challenges Faced In The Quest To Develop Region 

The journey to take the region's development to her promised land wasn't a bed of roses. Hon Angwafo told the Assembly that 'unforseen obstacles' including security challenges,and their socio economic ramifications, climate change among others have been a bone in the neck.

"climate change remains a pressing issue that requires urgent attention. The North-West Region has been victim of floods, storms, erratic weather patterns, dwindling water resources, and environmental degradation."

As stewards of the land, Hon Angwafo disclosed that it is incumbent upon them to adopt sustainable practices that mitigate the effects of climate change and safeguard the natural resources for future generations.
