Two Day Ghost Town Operation Crumble Economic Activities In Bamenda
A two days ghost town operation imposed by separatist fighters has dealt a heavy blow to economic activities in Bamenda. The population has been indoors for the past two days for fear of the unknown. Few persons could be seen selling mostly perishables at some of the markets around town. The transport sector was also hit as only a handful of bikes were circulating, but no yellow taxis were on the road.

138th Edition Of Labour In Bamenda More Of Public Sector Affair
The 138th edition of the international labour day has come and gone but the dust raised is your to settle. Activities at the Bamenda Commercial Avenue Grandstand were described as a Public Sector affair by many who said the absence of the informal sector cost the day the splendour it used to have. This was not the case some years back before the Anglophone Crisis went deadly. The few that answered present were saluted by North West Governor, Adolphe Lele Lafrique who celebrated for coming out despite the challenges. Tilong Stanley on his part noted that numerous ghost towns are affecting both employers, and employees. He said working days are greatly reduced especially when the lockdown days are too many. This year's edition of international labour day was celebrated with the theme: Constructive Social Dialogue: Vector of Decent Work and Social Progress. The day was observed under watertight security.
CHRDA Arms Young Persons With Tools To Curb Sexual Exploitation, Abuse
The Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in Africa (CHRDA) on Saturday April 27 2024 drilled close to 40 young persons in Tubah Sub Division, North West Region of Cameroon on Mitigating Sexual Exploitation and Abuse : a gate way to foster the participation of women in decision making/ conflict resolution. It was done with the Theme: Supporting women participation in conflict resolution. During the event, the young persons staged a play depicting how school authorities violate young girls. They also indicated that they would contribute their own little quarter to the fight against sexual abuse and exploitation by encouraging their peers to work hard at school, sensitise them to engage in activities that would empower them, amonsgt others as a way to avoid being abused. The participants also indicated that their social media handles would hence be active morethan ever before with sensitization messages aimed at breaking the back of sexual exploitation and abuse. CHRDA is one of those None Governmental Organization that is leading the fight against human rights abuses in Africa.
Blood Flows at Mbengwi Road As Mother Of Three Is Killed
Armed men whose identities have not yet been established have shot death a mother of three at the Mbengwi Road neighborhood in Bamenda II, North West Region of Cameroon. The incident happened at about 10:pm on Sunday April 28th, 2024. The lady whose name we got as Bernis Monji, fashion designer in Bamenda was attacked after she was dropped off by family members with whom she attended a family come together.It's not clear if she was targeted or not. Her lifeless body is at a mortuary in Bamenda pending burial arrangements. Investigations have been opened.
Improvised Explosive Device Goes Off At Mile 2 Junction
An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) has gone off at the Mile 2 neighborhood in Bamenda III Sub Division. No one was injured neither was there any material damage. The use of IED has been so rampant in Bamenda, and the North West Region as a whole eversince the Anglophone armed conflict degenerated in to an armed conflict. Many including soldiers, and civilians have lost their lives, while many others have been rendered handicapped by IEDs. Security officers have on many occasions dismantle some of the IEDs like the recent case at Commercial Avenue Bamenda.
Armed Men Disrupt Wedding Ceremony At New Road
Saturday would forever remain in the minds of invited quests at a wedding ceremony at New Road where gunmen suspected to be armed robbers stormed the event and deprived many of their valuables including huge sums of money. We gathered that the robbers after they had robbed guests at the weeding proceeded to the hotel reception that hosted the event and collected an undisclosed amount of money. They would later disappeared in to thin air without a trace.
Suspected Bike Thief Beaten To Death In Bamenda
The population of Ntamulung in Bamenda II Sub Division administered mob justice on a young man whose identity is yet to be established. Reports say the victim who died on the spot was a suspected bike thief. Other sources revealed that the young man took advantage of the fact that people's attention was tilted towards the Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich match on Tuesday, and attempted to steal a bike. That's how he met him doom as he was caught and beaten mercilessly. His motionless body was still lying at Sonac Street on Wednesday where he died.
Cab Driver In Pains after Gunmen Shot Him In The Palm
Gunmen have opened fire on a township taxi at the Ghana Street neighborhood in Bamenda.According to an executive member of one of the drivers' gatherings in Bamenda, this colleague of theirs mistakenly knocked down a bike transporting gunmen. Narrating what transpired, the victim said he never knew the bike that he erroneously had onboard gunmen. One of them opened fire,and a bullet caught him in the palm of his hand. He is currently responding to treatment. His colleagues have advised him to organize a Thanks Giving Service and thank God for his life saying his being alive today is by the Grace of God.
Trader Stranded In Big Babanki After Vehicles Could Not Transport Them Back To Bamenda
Hundreds of buyam sellams who attended the Big Babanki Market on Sunday 28th were left stranded when vehicles were not coming to bring them back to Bamenda. Many said they couldn't immediately say what was the problem. Those with little of no luggages decided to start trekking back to Bamenda while those with business items they had bought were in a tight situation as they could not make their way to town. A lady told drayinfos.com that she had to pay 7000frs to the driver of a vehicle that was going to Bamenda from Boyo Division to take her to Bamenda.
SDF National Chairman Joshua Challenges Population To Decide Their Fate By Registering and Voting
The National Chairman of the Social Democratic Front SDF, Chairman Joshua Osih has questioned why people who have all the powers to better their situations,and that of the Country would allow others do that for them only to complain later. This was during his first official visit to Bamenda as National Chairman of the SDF. He said time has come for the population of the North West Region to take their destinies in to their hands by massively enrolling into the electoral registers,and vote the right people to lead them whom he said are found only in the SDF. He said the Anglophone crisis seems to be an everlasting crisis, and that only the SDF can fix things if only only if Cameroonian voters register, and vote the SDF. He indicated that the Cameroon People's Democratic Movement CPDM has failed, and time to safe Cameroon from collapsing is now, and the only way out is kicking out the CPDM,or suffer for ever.
CAMASEJ Bamenda Beats Cameroon National Youth Council In Friendly Encounter
In sport, a friendly football encounter between players of the Bamenda Chapter of the Cameroon Association of English Speaking Journalists CAMASEJ Bamenda, and those of the Cameroon National Youth Council, CNYC North West ended 2-1 in favor of CAMASEJ Bamenda. The match was played at the Bamenda Municipal Stadium on Tuesday April 30th. The march was part of weeklong activities to commemorate World Press Freedom Day 2024.
