Mayor Mbigha Felix Honored For His Peace-Building Initiatives In Bamenda I

Bamenda I, in the Mezam division of Cameroon's North West Region, is considered a "green zone,"one of the few areas in the crisis-affected region that has largely been spared from the level of security challenges faced by other council areas in the region.

Much of this stability can be attributed to the peace-building initiatives of Mbigha Felix, the municipal head of Bamenda I. Mbigha's efforts have not gone unnoticed, and he was recently awarded by the Gazette Media Group for being the 2023 Best and Silent Development Achiever, an honor he dedicated to the people of his municipality.

"I was a young mayor who came in, and the actors of this crisis in Bamenda I were young people. I had to explain the importance of development to them, and they saw it coming. They bought the ideas of embracing peace, and today, we are reaping the fruits,"
Mbigha said.

He further expressed that the award is an encouragement to continue working for the development of Bamenda I, a goal he is pursuing through engagement with the local population. 

"This award has come to encourage us to do better for the development of Bamenda I, and part of this development is through the population," he remarked.

Mbigha says his dream is to make Bamenda I the best council area in the North West Region, and he expressed his appreciation to the Gazette newspaper for the recognition of his peace-building work which serves as a booster to the his initiatives.

Chattered Vehicles As A Result Of Accident  By Raymond Dingana Township taxi drivers in Bamenda are still in shock following the death of one of theirs who died alongside his passenger at the Mile 6 neighborhood in Nkwen, on the Bamenda-Bambili road, Friday March 15, 2024. The accident that didn't only take away lives but caused enormous damages on the two vehicles involved has been attributed to over speeding. "The black private car was on top speed when it suddenly found itself on the other said of the road colliding with the taxi. The occupants of the private owned vehicle fled the scene after the accident. The vehicle was coming from the Mile 6 direction while the taxi was heading towards Bamenda, " explained a witness. Taxi On Fire In Ntarinkon Bamenda  By Raymond Dingana Over the past few days, gunmen suspected to be separatist fighters have been targeting taxi drivers in Mezam Division, in Cameroon's North West Region. Taxi drivers say these incidents have been recurring since Mezam Senior Divisional Officer (SDO), Simon Emile Mooh signed a Prefectoral Order banning the circulation of motorbikes from 6:30 pm to 6:30 am until further notice. The drivers believe the SDO's decision to restrict motorbikes has triggered these latest attacks on them, as rumors have been circulating that armed men have also imposed a ban on their own activities during the same hours. On Tuesday, June 4th, 2024, eyewitnesses said gunmen dressed in civilian attire attacked Akondi, a taxi driver in the Ntarinkon neighborhood of Bamenda II Council area.
