Bongo Linda Etongwe has called on authorities to enhance the accessibility and affordability of Primary Health Care (PHC) for the population. She highlighted that millions of Cameroonians are living in abject poverty, making it challenging for them to afford healthcare services, which she described as a significant issue.

Etongwe explained that PHC is a comprehensive approach to health that emphasizes the overall well-being of individuals and communities. It aims to provide accessible, affordable, and quality health services to everyone, particularly underserved populations.

Her Master's Degree thesis was on Public Health Policies, Community Engagement, and Access to Primary Health Care, focusing on the case of Ngongsamba in the Moungo Division of the Littoral Region of Cameroon defended at the Bamenda branch office of the Pan African Institute Of Development, West Africa (PAID-WA) on Saturday January 25.

Etongwe emphasized that while the government is making efforts to improve accessibility to PHC, community members also have an essential role to play.

"It is crucial for community members to be actively involved in Primary Health Care, as it is not solely the responsibility of the government. Community members can significantly enhance their own health by engaging in preventive measures. They should be encouraged to maintain a clean environment, ensure they receive their vaccinations on time, and motivate others to do the same,"

 stated Etongwe.

She further urged development stakeholders, including non-governmental organizations, to support underserved communities by providing Primary Health Care services that are both accessible and affordable for all.

Etongwe warned that if PHC is not made accessible and affordable, Cameroon’s emergence by 2035 could be adversely affected, as only a healthy population can contribute to the nation’s development.
