One Dead, Several Others Wounded as Gunshots Erupt in Nkwen, Bamenda


A woman has died, and several others have been wounded following gunshots around Amour Mezam Travel Agency in Nkwen, Bamenda, on the afternoon of Thursday, January 16. Sources on the ground indicate that armed men attacked a security checkpoint in the area, triggering an exchange of fire that resulted in the death of a woman, identified as a vegetable seller. The wounded individuals were rushed to a health facility for medical attention. The victim has been described as a hardworking woman who earned her living by selling vegetables. It is also noteworthy that gunmen killed a police officer at Ntabesse Junction, not far from where Thursday's incident occurred.


Government Forces Kill Suspected Separatists in Military Operation In Alakuma


The bodies of young men suspected to be separatist fighters have been discovered in ALAKUMA, located in the Bamenda II Council area. Sources indicate that these bodies were found following a military operation on Sunday, January 12, 2024. Residents reported hearing a loud explosion, which they believe was an improvised explosive device aimed at security forces, followed by gunfire. Eyewitnesses say the boys were brought to the scene and killed there. It remains unclear if there were any casualties among the soldiers, as obtaining such information is often challenging. There has been no confirmed count of Cameroonians who lost their lives in the operation.


Households Plunged into Darkness as Transformer Catches Fire in Ntarinkon

Some households at the Ntarinkon neighborhood in Bamenda have been left in darkness after a transformer supplying electricity to the area caught fire. Authorities have not disclosed the cause of the fire. This incident follows the recent restoration of electricity to many homes in the area on Christmas Day, after some households had been without power for seven months. Affected residents hope they will not have to endure another prolonged blackout as they did previously.


Armed Men Kill Transport Agency Worker in Nkwen

Gunmen have killed a young man named John Paul, who was reportedly a worker at Nso Boys Travel Agency in Mile 4 Nkwen, Bamenda. According to reports, he was forcibly taken from his home in Alahlieh, located in the Nkwen area of Bamenda III council, and shot dead nearby. His lifeless body was later discovered by a local resident, who raised the alarm. John Paul's remains were subsequently taken to the mortuary for preservation pending burial.

Falling Utility Poles Posing a Threat to the Population

Many utility poles in Bamenda are on the brink of falling, raising concerns that they might collapse on individuals. One example is a pole at the Food Market in Bamenda, which is currently being supported by cables. Many fear that the pole might fall on people, given that the food market is a busy area. They have called on the authorities of ENEO to address the issue so that no one gets hurt.

Gunshots and Explosion Heard in Bali After a While


Gunshots and an explosion were heard in Bali Nyonga over the weekend. Reports indicate that the incident, which occurred in the "Tee" neighborhood of Bali, targeted a military vehicle. A man on a motorbike was hit and was rushed to a health facility in Bali for medical attention. This latest incident comes after the population of Bali had been going about their activities in an atmosphere of relative peace. There are hopes that this recent event will not plunge the village into another bout of violence with government forces.
