The Fon of Pinyin in Santa Subdivision, NWR of Cameroon, has decried the recent killing of six of his subjects. This is contained in a document titled: Message of the Paramount Fon, HRM Kenneth Assobo III to the population of Pinyin Clan.
In what societal watchers have described by as a rare statement from a traditional authority following the killing of his people, the Fon of Pinyin, His Majesty Kenneth Assobo III, has condemned what he describes as the senseless killings of their beloved youths, six of whom were tragically lost just last Sunday night (February 23, 2025) in Mamben Pinyin. The traditional authority stated that these innocent lives were taken far too soon, and the grief they share as a community is immeasurable.
In his statement, the Fon noted that the traditional council of Pinyin has urgently convened to reflect on a way forward and to explore all avenues for restoring peace and justice to the kingdom. He emphasized that it is imperative for the community to come together, now more than ever, to ensure that the future of their children is one of safety and hope.
Fon Kenneth Assobo urged the people of Pinyin to remain steadfast in the face of this loss. He stated that as they navigate these difficult times, they should remember that their strength as a community lies not in division but in unity. He warned that violence begets more violence, and it is only through peace, dialogue, and understanding that they can break free from this cycle of suffering.
While expressing his deepest condolences to the families of those who were killed, he invited the population to honor their memory by committing to peace and working together to heal the land. Although he did not name those responsible for the act, witnesses report that government forces carried out the killings.
According to the Thursday edition of *The Guardian Post* newspaper, the Divisional Officer of Santa Subdivision, Jules Roger Nkolo Voundi, stated that a special unit of security officers in his area of command conducted the raid that left six individuals, suspected to be Amba fighters, dead.
To many in Pinyin, those killed were civilians who were relaxing in a drinking spot on that fateful Sunday, February 23. Many such incidents have occurred in various villages in the crisis-battered NW/SW regions of Cameroon, yet traditional authorities have remained silent, perhaps to maintain favor with the government at the expense of their people.
