Many in Bamenda, capital of the North West Region of Cameroon have intensified calls for justice following the arrest of 57-year-old Wirba Julius, a lecturer at a Polytechnic University Institute accused of raping minors as young as four.

The suspect was  presented to the public on Friday February 28, 2025 at the Central Police Station at Old Town Bamenda II Council area.

Residents fear that money may influence the legal process, allowing the suspect to evade justice reason why they say they are ringing the alarm bell.

Wirba faces allegations of violating seven children, with the youngest being just 2 years old. The victims' mother shared her traumatic experience:

"I was at work when a woman confronted him, accusing him of raping her daughter. I was terrified, knowing my own children were often in his presence.I always see him giving them sweets and biscuits so I was scared that he might have also abused by children.

After reassuring her daughter, who revealed the abuse began in primary four, the mother took all seven children to the hospital, where the horrifying truth was confirmed.

Wirba has earned the grim nickname "Pa Rape" due to his history of abuse.

"Even his wife left him long ago because many rape cases were pinned on him,"
the mother explained. Following the hospital's confirmation, she reported Wirba to the Central Police Station in Bamenda, and Wirba was arrested on Friday February 21,2025.

Senior Superintendent of Police Emmanuel Mbock whose security post is in charge of the case stated,

"He confessed to raping seven children, aged between four and thirteen."

He urged the community to continue reporting such crimes to root out predators. Despite the evidence, Wirba maintains his innocence, claiming,

"I asked one of the children, the 13-year+old to show me her mother so that I could tell her she is always with me in order to avoid embarrassments. I even helped her with schoolwork. As the situation escalated, when the accusations where mounting and people started gathering, I fled in fear. As far as rape is concerned, I have not raped a child."

Wirba also recounted that one day her mother saw her leaving his place. She got her well beaten and brought her to his store saying this is where she has been coming and accused him of  sleeping with her daughter. Wirba said he asked her to go and run some test to prove him wrong. Wirba the suspect said the next day, he heard his neighbor interrogating her children asking them if he has been touching them whenever they went visiting, and the children said yes.

" She started crying saying I have destroyed her children. My next neighbor started spreading the story that I was impregnated a 13 year old girl. When I saw people gathering, I escaped, fearing something worse would happen. As far as rape is concerned, I have not raped a child,"
he insisted.

Medical reports have confirmed the abuse, and while the police assert that Wirba confessed, he continues to deny the charges.

It is also reported that his wife left him more than a year ago because she could not bear the man's excesses.
