In a bid to enhance the reporting skills of sports journalists in the North West Region of Cameroon, the North West Chapter of the Cameroon Association of Sports Journalists (CASJ-NW) trained its members on the Laws of Football. This training took place during their monthly gathering held at the Human Rights Commission's Office on Friday, April 4, 2025.
The workshop was made possible thanks to the strong partnership between CASJ and FECAFOOT North West.
According to the main facilitator, Njichu Clauvis, a professional Elite 1 football referee, participants were schooled on the 17 laws of football, which he emphasized are crucial for effective football reporting.
"We trained journalists on the terminologies of football, which will significantly enhance their reporting skills. It was also an opportunity for journalists to learn about the recent changes in the laws of football. This knowledge will help them communicate effectively as football reporters,"said Njichu Clauvis.
Emmanuel Fokum, one of the workshop participants, praised the initiative, stating,
"I have learned a lot, especially about the new rules of the game. For a long time, we have been accustomed to the old rules. I now understand the differences between handball, offside, penalties, and more."
Also present was Choves Loh, who remarked that football without rules is merely entertainment.
"But football with rules and regulations is a competition. You can't be a football reporter without mastering the rules,"
he noted.
He appreciated the facilitator's expertise, which helped participants easily grasp the material presented.
